Safety and Hygiene Policy

Bayou Steel Corporation's policy is to establish, actively promote, and continuously improve the safety, health and accident prevention program at all operating locations.  The Company is committed to provide a safe and healthful work environment for all employees, to prevent human and material loss, and to meet or exceed Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) regulations and federal, state and local laws for safety environmental, health, and medical practices.

Bayou Steel Corporation believes that injuries can be prevented, that management is responsible for preventing injuries, that safety requires involving all employees, that training employees to work safely is essential and that accident prevention is good business.  The Company will promote employee involvement in eliminating and controlling industrial accidents and illnesses, will train all employees in safe work practices and procedures, will ensure that all employees are aware of the hazards associated with their work and enforce all applicable regulations, standards or policies.

Bayou Steel Corporation has implemented a safety program in order to achieve operational safety and accident prevention objectives.  All managers and employees are required to actively participate in the safety program.  Bayou Steel Corporation considers safety an integral part of each task, and therefore, will not allow mission or schedule to overshadow the safe accomplishment of each task.  All employees are expected to maintain safety awareness at all times and fulfill, at a minimum, the following responsibilities:

• Be familiar with, and comply with Bayou Steel Corporation's safety policies and procedures;

• Know and comply with all safe work practices associated with the job;

• Use all protective equipment and safety devices provided or required on each work assignment;

• Correct safety problems;

• Report all observed unsafe conditions, practices, accidents, incidents, job-related injuries or illnesses and near miss incidents;

• Strive to eliminate causes of accident, injuries, and illnesses in the workplace, and;

• Set an Example for fellow employees regarding safety compliance and interest.

Bayou Steel Corporation believes that the most important facet of an effective and efficient safety program is a personal commitment by all employees at all levels of the corporation to carry out their safety program responsibilities.  To ensure a clear understanding between the employee and the Company concerning this policy, each employee is required, as a condition of employment, to certify receipt and knowledge of this policy on an annual basis.

The issuance and distribution of this policy are not intended to indicate something new, but rather to call attention, and put into writing what has always been Bayou Steel Corporation's policy and the underlying understanding between the Company and its employees regarding compliance.
